Last night I had the opportunity to watch “In Her Shoes”, starring Toni Collette, Cameron Diaz and Shirley MacLaine. I loved the book and heard only good things about the movie, so I was looking forward to it.
It didn’t disappoint. It’s not a typical chick flick in that it’s all about “does the girl get the boy” but rather it’s a story about two sisters struggling for their identities and where they fit in life – separate and together. As I said, I loved the book and worried about the movie adaptation, but I have to say that it was really well done. It was pretty faithful to the book (obviously some parts were missing but the overall work was there) and the performances were great. One scene in particular I loved was with Shirley MacLaine after she receives a kiss from a suitor. I cracked up and found out later through the Special Features on the DVD that she was mimicking a reaction she saw of her grandmother receiving an unwanted overture from a neighbor. Very funny.
I definitely recommend you add it to your list. It’s got funny moments, sad moments – it’s a good one!

Glad you liked it!! I looked for the book at the library the other day, but it was checked out…
