The kids had a busy afternoon playing out in the snow and after coming in and warming up I put them down at 5:00 p.m. for a short nap. I turned on a movie, figuring it was 90 minutes long and that by the time it was over I could wake up the kids, give them some dinner, let ’em run around a bit and then put them back to bed. It’s now 7:00 p.m. and I think I’m going to take my chances and see if they’ll sleep all night. Denis thinks they might since they played in the snow for a while.
So during their nap I ended up watching “First Daughter”, the Katie Holmes movie in which we suspend belief that she’s 18 years old and headed off the college for her freshman year. Kind of hard to do when all you can think is, “Why on EARTH would she marry Tom Cruise – she must be making a LOT of money off’a him.”
The movie was strictly mediocre, bordering on incredibly childish. I still can’t believe Forest Whitaker directed this hackneyed fluff movie. If he’s trying to follow in Clint Eastwood’s actor-to-director footsteps he needs to take a few more lessons on finding movies with GOOD plots (which he normally does well with for his own acting choices).
I’ll give it some points for having Marc Blucas in it – he was “Riley” on Buffy, and while I didn’t like the character that much I certainly liked the actor. He’s cute. Katie Holmes? Drop dead gorgeous. Her face is unbelievable. I can see why Tom hired her.
