Movie: Crash

It was an impressive cast (Don Cheadle, Sandra Bullock, Brendan Fraser, Matt Dillon, Ryan Phillippe, Larenz Tate, etc.), but that still didn’t make me love this movie. This was a gritty tale of how everyone on the planet is prejudice, whether they want to admit it or not. Each and every major (and a couple of minor) character had at least one experience with racism and stereotype. It was interesting to watch each character unfold, and to be sure everyone did an admirable job with their portrayal. But only one plotline really kept me truly engaged (the locksmith’s story) – the rest were interesting but not spellbinding.

This movie got a ton of rave reviews when it came out, and I can understand why, but at the same time I think the reviews caused this movie to be overly hyped-up in my head. I had extremely high expectations for this one, and was a bit let down.

2 1/2 impenetrable cloaks out of five.

    hey Jaynee and Denis!

i watched Crash as well, but i wasn’t as hyped over it as it seems you were. i heard it was good. but that was it. i picked it up and it looked interesting. the rest was history. the performances were alright, but i particularly enjoyed the writing of fellow Canadian Paul Haggis (who also wrote million dollar baby). I remember more than ten years ago when paul created a television series on CBS called due south about a canadian mountie and chicago cop. it was one of the best tv shows for me. anyway, if you haven’t already noticed, Canadians enjoy supporting each other, especially living in the shadow of our big brother of the US. hope all is well!
