Movie: Capricorn One

I’m so happy this movie finally came up on my Netflix list! I remember seeing this movie as a kid and LOVING IT. Watching it now as an adult it was still just as enjoyable. It contained an all-star cast, including James Brolin, Sam Waterston, Elliot Gould, Telly Savalas, Brenda Vaccaro, and even OJ Simpson. The story follows three astronauts who have prepared to go to Mars. At the last minute before the board the rocket they are whisked away and taken to a private television station, where they are told that the government is faking the trip to Mars because of a potentially catastrophic system error on the rocket.

For months they film their “work” on Mars in this hidden studio, but slowly people start becoming suspicious…and disappearing when they express their doubts.

A fast moving plot, actors doing a great job, and decent direction for 1978 – all captured in a movie that just might be more fact than fiction…

3 1/2 miles in the desert out of five.

I remember that movie too! Good review. Another one I’d like to see from long ago is Logan’s Run. Have a great week. Lyn from Bloggin’ Outloud (via Jen)

I did. You want me to get it again so you can see it? I figured you wouldn’t want to see it…

I saw it with my two best friends when I was in my teens, and thought it was good; an intriguing scenario. The more memorable parts of the day were that we were the only three people at that showing, and to add insult to injury, one of my friends snuck in his own food, and then when we left, his car had a flat tire.

I think the movie did a disservice in that it spawned, or at least encouraged, the nonsensical moon hoax conspiracy theories.

No, that’s okay. No biggie. I didn’t even know you had it in the house. I have to start paying more attention to these things.
