Movie: A Lot Like Love

Well who knew that Ashton Kutcher could act? Not me! I mean sure, he “acted” in ‘That 70s Show’, but it was over-the-top slapstick comedy. But real acting, which not many comedic actors are capable of, isn’t something that you would associate with Ashton Kutcher. Having said that, I thought he did a nice job in this little movie that I caught on cable this weekend.

I missed the first 20 minutes of the movie, but I didn’t think that mattered too much. IMDb describes the movie this way:

On a flight from Los Angeles to New York, Oliver (Kutcher) and Emily (Amanda Peet) make a connection, only to decide that they are poorly suited to be together. Over the next seven years, however, they are reunited time and time again, they go from being acquaintances to close friends to … lovers?

I thought the movie was a written-better-than-most romantic comedy, without being too cutesy and cloying. Kutcher and Peet portrayed characters as being more than two-dimensional, and the photography scene in the desert was filmed very nicely. This isn’t a movie worth rushing to rent (it wasn’t even on my Netflix list when I went to go check, and my list is full to 500), but if you can catch it, you’ll probably like it.

3 Huggies out of five (Kutcher’s character is a diaper salesman)
