So I’ve added all the Christmas tunes I downloaded last year to my songlist. I’ll probably be sick of them by Dec. 1, but for now I’m thrilled to hear “Do They Know It’s Christmas” by BandAid. Remember when that came out? I worshipped that song. I defy you to name ten musicians/groups that performed on that song. And don’t cheat and go look it up.

1. Sting
2. David Bowie
*Ok, this is harder than I thought it would be*
3. Tina Turner?
4. George Michael
5. Bob Gandalf
*You know there are quite a few 80s has-beens in the list that I can’t think of b/c they’re has-beens*
6. Michael Jackson
7. Diana Ross
8. Chrissie Hynde
9. Boy George
10. Duran Duran
I was totally guessing on most of these. Off to check how I did…
Doh! That’s Bob Geldof…got him mixed up with LOTR. =)
I want to say Bananarama, but I’m not sure on that one. Still trying to find a place with the list of artists.
First off, BandAid was a EUROPEAN venture, so no, Tina, Chrissie, Michael and Diana were not involved at all. They did USA for Africa, which is the cheesy US charity song.
You are correct about Sting (although it was actually The Police), Bob Geldof, Boy George, Duran Duran and Bananarama. I don’t believe George Michael was in on it – but I could be wrong. David Bowie was NOT in it.
I remember Bono/U2 and Paul Young also particpated. Come up with any others?
Quincy Jones. He was involved with everything in the 80’s. Am I right?
Quincy Jones = American, and thus part of USA for Africa, not BandAid. Thank you for playing.
Other participants: Phil Collins, Spandau Ballet, Jody Watley, Midge Ure, some members of Queen, David Bowie (Jen, you were right – he DID sing on it), Frankie Goes to Hollywood and Paul McCartney.
I know it was a mostly British venture, but I was trying to remember who was HOT in the 80s and those folks were. I thought maybe the HOTTEST of the Americans might have participated.
Midge Ure…wow. Haven’t heard that name in a long time.
I practically memorized that video. The leads were Bob Geldof, Paul Young, George Michael, Boy George, Simon LeBon, Bono, Sting. Also there, to name a few, were the rest of Duran Duran, U2, Bananarama, Police, just about every popular European band of the early 80’s. Love that video, but can name each solo voice without even looking!
what was the first line of that song?
“It’s Christmas time . . . ” (and this is played after a gong sounds)
