Miserable Commute

This morning my commute was very reminiscent of my old New Jersey commute. Long backup, slow moving, twice as long.

I left the house early today because I needed to get gas and take the kids to daycare. It took me more than 20 minutes to get to daycare (normally takes 5 minutes) because of the people detouring through Fort Mill to avoid the I-77 backup. It would have been longer if I hadn’t taken my shortcut through a neighborhood that I discovered a few months ago. The shortcut only works if there is traffic – if there’s no traffic there’s no sense in taking it. This morning it was invaluable.

Once I dropped off the kids I headed back to I-77, where traffic was at a crawl from the time I got on at 8:47 a.m. (yes, I looked) to the time I got off. Eight long miles. I didn’t park my car at work until 9:37 a.m. (again, yes, I looked). Supposedly there had been an accident at Exit 6, but I never saw anything (I get off at Exit 8).

I’m glad commutes like this are rare. I just find it weird that commutes like this ONLY happen on days I’m slotted to take the kids to daycare.
