Miscellaneous

My commute this morning was a breezy 20 minutes with only modest holiday traffic. And I left late, so it was nice to still arrive at work 5 minutes early. I look forward to tonight’s small commute as well.

Our kitchen table and chairs should be delivered today. When I printed my receipt it said that we would get a call confirming the four hour window for delivery. Turns out, in NC, SC and GA on Mondays the delivery service will only give you an “all day” delivery window. NOT good. However, I was told by customer service that if Denis leaves a note on the door with his cell phone number and can get to the house within ten minutes after they call that they will wait for him to arrive. So that’s what we’re going to attempt since Denis doesn’t want to be stuck at the house all day by himself. Update at 11:28 a.m.: I just got word that the table and chairs were delivered before Denis even had to put up a note! YAY!

I arrived to work this morning to find six tapes waiting as well as a few other tasks. It’s going to be a busy day (and has been already). And did I mention that last Friday I was the second to last person to leave the office? Mr. BIL was the last one. We were running around trying to finalize a bill for a client and it took FOREVER because the numbers weren’t adding up and our billing person leaves at 3:45 p.m. every day.

In other news, last night we took over three of the kitties to the house. Mini, Stinky and Ginger. We put them in our room (with full access to the bathroom and closet so they could hide if they wanted to) with a bowl of food and water and the kitty litter. We only left Fred at the apartment because he wouldn’t budge from his hiding place under Denis’ dresser. So he’ll go over this morning and join his cohorts. We’re going to leave them in there until Saturday night so that they can’t escape during our various comings and goings. And since the move is on Friday AND Saturday we need to keep them enclosed until the last box has been delivered and the house is closed up and ready to be unpacked.

Yesterday we went to Kohl’s, Bed Bath & Beyond and World Market and picked up some stuff for the house. We discovered that our master bath doesn’t have a toilet paper holder in that area of the bath so we bought a TP stand. There are still a few other little things we’ll need to get over the next couple weeks, but so far so good. We did make the awful discovery that our upper kitchen cabinets may be a bit more shallow than anticipated – I don’t know if my Fiestaware dinner plates will fit. I’m hoping that it’s just an optical illusion because the cabinets are so TALL compared to our old ones. But they are pretty shallow. And as we began putting stuff away last night we realized that the cabinets are not user friendly at all. I predict a major kitchen overhall if we opt to stay in this house for more than the initial projected five years. We may giving Denis’ food items all of the overcounter cabinets and let me have the pantry area for my Fiestaware collection. At which point I may see if we can put in glass doors so that it can be shown off. We’ll see. We need my mom to visit so that she can help us figure out how to set up the kitchen (she’s good at that).

Lastly, speaking of Fiesta, I met one of our next door neighbors this weekend and it turns out that she, too, collects Fiestaware! She said she only has post-86 stuff, no vintage, but was excited that she had someone so closeby that used the same stuff. I mentioned the the national club for Fiesta collectors and she had never heard of it so I told her we’d have to go to the convention together one of these years.
