Last night was an adventure. We got on the road late since I left work later than I hoped (Mr. BIL and I agreed to 4 p.m. and I left at 4:38 p.m.). The kids were pills as we geared up and upon leaving the house I was feeling very out of sorts. I asked Denis to pull over and he said he was fine, but didn’t seem to understand that *I* wasn’t (admittedly, I didn’t express myself well). It culminated one short mile from our house when I made a comment about Denis’ driving and he promptly got out of the car at the stoplight and told me to drive.
Not a good start.
However, after a quick prayer we headed on down the road. Did well for about an hour until CootieGirl announced she had peed her pants. This despite my repeat requests that she go potty before we leave (apparently unheeded requests). We let her stew in her own juices for a while (so to speak) and finally pulled over into a McDonald’s to clean her up and get some dinner. We also let the kids run around for a good 30 minutes on the surprisingly clean indoor gym. We lament that our own local McD’s isn’t as nice.
We hit the road again and let the kids watch one short and one long DVD. Then we had quiet time in which we darkened the van and played classical music for about 20 minutes. CootieGirl quickly passed out, but CootieBoy was rather lucid, so we gave up and just put on good tunes.
Time passed – the trip was interminable, really. It went on FOREVER. But we finally made it – around 12:45 p.m. (only 45 minutes past our original projected time). It’s an easier drive than the NoNJ – Virginia trek, but it’s LONG.
Glad to hear that you made it to Va. safely and with your sanity intact 🙂
