Lunch With The Bosses

In honor of Admin’s Day my two bosses are taking me out to lunch today. I’m NOT happy about it.

Look, I don’t believe in fraternizing with the higher-ups. At The Old Company all of us would groan a bit when a banker came in and sat down at the table, effectively ending our analysis of the best kind of peanut butter and introducing a topic we all hated during lunch: BUSINESS. They’d sit and discuss the latest deal, or EBITDA or whatever stupid work-related topic they wanted to talk about. And meanwhile the rest of us would sit in silence, wishing he’d leave so we could get back to the hot topic of whether crunchy was better than smooth.

So I am apprehensive about going to lunch with Mr. Russell and Mr. Sutherland. Because in the end I think they are going to talk business while I sit there eating my salad and drinking 10 glasses of water all the while wishing it was Malibu Rum and pineapple juice to get something out of the time.

Update at 2:07 p.m.: Lunch was okay. They talked business for the first half hour and then seemed to remember that I was there and we lapsed into timeshare/vacation talk for a bit until they segued into car talk – discussing whether Lexus or BMW was better. *sigh*

Ahhhhh, MRPJs…still the beverage of choice.
Hang in there and enjoy the lunch as much as possible.

The way to get ahead in business is to “do lunch” with the higher ups. You’ll be running that company before you know it.

Well obvously, BMW is far superior to Lexus. I mean, yes, BMW is so Neuvo Riche, and Lexus was old money. But Lexus is the new BMW, with the new SUV version being snapped up by every lawyer’s wife this side of the Mississippi, making BMW the new Lexus.

    Err, nevermind.
