Let’s Measure It!

Tonight I told Denis we had to measure our bedroom windows so that my mom would know how much fabric to order for the valances she’s making for us. I said, “I’d also love to measure our land so I can get a better picture of what our land is like that we bought a couple years ago.”

Denis whipped out a 100′ measuring tape he got while he was practicing real estate. With the kids completely entrenched watching “Shrek” on DVD, we snuck outside. We first measured the width of our property – it’s about 67 feet wide. Our land on the other side of town is 100′ wide, so we put out the entire length of the tape and WOW – that really put it into perspective. We will EASILY be able to do a side-load garage with a nice wide driveway when it comes time to build our house. We want enough driveway to park several cars so that when we have a party we have plenty of room for people to park without having them be required to park on the street.

We then measured the current depth of our property. The land we bought is 200′ deep. Our current property is about 130′ or 140′ deep. It’s awesome to know when we go to build we can set the house back further back from the street – about 80 feet, and STILL have a huge amount of backyard space for a pool, a deck and a grassy area.

We’re not building for a number of years, but I’m just as excited now as I was when we first closed on the land two years ago. Even though we “only” have half an acre – it’s going to be AWESOME.
