And just like that it’s over. Today I received my final paycheck from my company. I am officially no longer employed. I will get a little bit more money – my FSA still needs to get cleared out, and I hope to get that money at the end of the month. But regular steady paychecks are no more.
This is the first time in 18 years I’ve not had a full-time job. Oh sure, there was a period in the 1990s where I was a professional temp which didn’t guarantee 40 hours a week (and to be honest, a lot of times I was too wrecked from clubbing the night before to even CONSIDER working), but at least I could still say, “I’m a temp,” which meant I was a working temp.
But now? “I’m a stay at home mom,” I’ll say. Or perhaps I’ll amend it to say, “but I do freelance work at home on occasion.” Or maybe my amendment will be, “I’m working on my first novel that I’ve always wanted to write.”
We’ll see.
My description of myself: I’m a SAHM with lots of interests, some of which actually bring in some income 🙂
