Lamps! Lamps! Lamps!

So because of the “no overhead light” thing we are in need of lamps for the house. During our move we broke several lamps – the three we used in the living room (two broke before we moved, one broke during the move). The kids didn’t have a lamp in their room because they had the overhead. We had two decorative lamps in the guest room, one of which will work in CootieBoy’s room, the other will go in the guest room. Our two lamps from the master bedroom are still functional. But in the new house, that means we need lighting for the living room, family room, office, and CootieGirl’s room with at least a couple more smaller accent lights around the house.

I went to Target.com yesterday and started surfing. And surprisingly, they had some nicelooking lamps that got great reviews. So last night after showing them to Denis, I ordered them.

I got a soft light table lamp and a floor lamp for CootieBoy’s room. Add in the old one from the guest room and he’s got three lights. CootieGirl will get one new floor lamp, as well as the white table lamp that we managed to keep intact during the move. I ordered one floor lamp for the master – since the room is really long I felt we needed one more light besides the two nightstand lamps. Guest room got two small table lamps and will use the other old lamp that (hopefully) made it through the move. For the office I ordered two of those “banker lamps” (see picture). I didn’t get green ones, though – they were $35 each! I got white ones which were on sale for $15 each. For the living room I ordered two table lamps and a matching floor lamp. They are lovely and are my favorites out of the whole bunch. Lastly, for the family room I believe I ordered one floor lamp and two table lamps.

All total I bought 14 lamps (most of which were not available in the store in case you were wondering why I didn’t just go to Target and buy them in person) and a set of pretty pink curtains for CootieGirl’s room. Most expensive lamp: $49.99, cheapest lamps: the aforementioned banker lamps at $14.99. Grand total: $623 and that includes shipping. I’m quite pleased, and they will be delivered sporadically over the next two weeks since shipping time varied from lamp to lamp.

We had the same problem with no overhead lighting in our house. One thing we did in the living room was to buy a hanging lamp kit and a lamp shade for the corner where the recliner sits. It gives nice overhead lighting without taking floor space or table space and it was super cheap. We got the kit at Bed, Bath & Beyond or Linens & Things, I think.

I’m not a fan of hanging lamps – especially with a toddler son who likes CORDS (at least with floor lamps I can wrap the cord under the base of the lamp).

I understand about the cord. Ours is behind the chair in the corner – hard to get to.

I swear, Target is the best. I think all of the table lamps in our house are from Target…except the one here in my office.
