Just When You Think It’s Over

Just when you think the plague is over (yesterday was a vomit-free day), the kiddies change their minds. This morning as soon as I got out of the shower I heard Denis holler, “The kids are throwing up – get out here.” Hair still dripping wet I ran into our room to find CootieGirl sitting in the rocker crying her eyes out. “Mama!” she wailed when she saw me. I went over and found her covered in the milk she had just enjoyed moments earlier.

I mopped her up and got her out of the rocker to clean that and asked Denis what happened.

“I think it was a sympathetic vomit,” he said, explaining that CootieBoy had just finished his bottle and spit up all over Denis. CootieGirl looked over, saw the mess, and spontaneously vomited on herself. :puke:

Once I got the chair cleaned, the bed stripped (again) and the carpet mopped up, CootieGirl asked to brush her teeth. I took her in the bathroom and helped her brush her teeth. Then I started to get myself ready for work, only a few minutes after CootieGirl cleaned her teeth she threw up again. She’s learning though – because she leaned over far enough that none of it got on her face, hair, shirt or pants.

Denis and I got into a brief debate about what we’d do. He HAS to do some work today, and I COULDN’T call in to work. So we opted to be optimistic and hope that CootieBoy was just normal (if heavy) spit-up from drinking his milk too fast and that CootieGirl is just a very sympathetic sister. I’ve already warned my bosses that I’m the one on call today – if daycare calls and insists we take the kids out, then I’ll be the one leaving work to go take care of them at home.
