Our office tradition of the Boo has started again. It began last week when L-Train got a bag of goodies delivered to her chair. I managed to go five workdays without getting tagged. Alas, when I arrived this morning I found a bag on my chair. I’ve been Boo’d. (or Spooked – this game has many names)
Don’t know what that is? Well, it’s when you buy a bag of miscellaneous goodies – candy, socks, knick knacks – all related to the Halloween holiday. You anonymously give them to someone with a note telling that person s/he’s been boo’d and to make a basket and give it anonymously to someone else. It perpetuates over the course of a couple weeks until finally everyone on the staff (or neighborhood, or church, or book club, or whatever group is doing it) has received a bag of goodies.
Last year I got boo’d at work AND at home. At work I did NOT pay it forward and didn’t get anything for anyone. At home, however, we welcomed a new neighbor to the neighborhood by boo’ing them. This year I know exactly who boo’d me because I recognize the candy as being what this woman normally has in her candy jar (we have five ladies on our floor who have candy jars and each offers something different).
I suppose I’ll go ahead and boo someone at work. Even though I don’t want to.
This year I got booed twice because I didn’t get the ghost up fast enough on the door. One was done a little bit different though. They called from a blocked number so I could not see it on the caller ID and said “Check your front porch, you have just been boo’ed”. It was a kids voice other wise it might have been a little creepy.
There are a few sites out there where you can print the poem like the one at http://www.beenbooed.com
I am a teacher and we leave a bucket of goodies for a class. The kids love it!
