It Could Have Been Bad But It Worked Out In The End

This morning at church I played keyboard. At Thursday’s practice I was freaking out because it was as though I hadn’t played piano in years. I couldn’t get ANYthing right. Part of it is that the keyboard I bought is still new to me and I haven’t brought it out of its case in over a month since I was on a break from playing at church.

This morning our setup took a bit longer than expected so our practice run went pretty much right up to the service time. This included running through our pre-service song twice in a row (once as practice and then two minutes later for the service). The song was “Give a Little Bit” by Supertramp and our practice run through was HORRIBLE. Our soundcheck was crazy and so the mix I had in my ears was ridiculously bad (all lead vocal and guitar – NO keyboard or backup vocal (including my own)). So at times I couldn’t even hear if I was playing the right chords at the right time.

Fortunately, once the service got underway, the band really came together and played a nice set.

Next week I’m just doing vocals, followed by keyboards the week after that.
