And now a CootieBoy update. He’s still continuing to learn to read. I’d say we do a couple chapters of the book every other night. I’ve also been going through it with CootieGirl. She’s on Lesson 31, he’s on Lesson 55. Last night he read the following story with virtually no errors:
A girl said, “That man has lots of pots. He has pots with tops. He has pots with no tops.”
The man said, “I have lot of cakes in pots. I have a port with a ship in it. I have fish in pots.”
The girl said, “Can I have a pot for a little fish?”
The man said, “This is a pot for a little fish.”
The girl said, “I will take this pot home with me.” And she did.
I know – it’s a miserably pedantic story. However, to a 4-year-old learning to read? It’s fascinating! He was so proud of himself when he was done.
One thing I haven’t been doing, which the book recommends, is reviewing the story in detail once he’s done reading it. But tonight I am going to start helping him actually comprehending the STORY behind what he’s reading. I’ve been lax in that and since he’s doing so well with the reading bit, I know he’ll enjoy the comprehension part as well.
That is wonderful!
He’s amazing!
