I Voted…Have You?

Denis and I both voted this morning before work. I took the kids to daycare while he got in line, and then I followed about 10 minutes later. I had to park in a parking lot two lots away from the church where we voted. Fortunately it stopped raining right as I parked – I was not excited about standing outside in the rain.

Denis had a reasonable spot in line but I felt bad at the thought of cutting (and I’m sure the 100+ people behind him wouldn’t have been too happy either), so I went to the back of the line. I immediately pulled out my book and started reading. After many MANY years sitting on the shelf I pulled out the classic drug-addict tale “Go Ask Alice.” By the time I made it up to the registration table inside the church I was over halfway through the book. That gives you an idea of how long my wait was.

In the end, I opted to vote McCain. If Ron Paul had been on the ballot, I may have voted for him. I didn’t feel like writing in his name. I know Denis voted Obama, so we essentially cancel each other out. There was no way I could in good conscience vote for Obama – the possibility for disaster is written all over his presidency, from removing the ability for parents to ensure a quality education through homeschooling to sex education for kindergarteners just to name two of the many topics at risk if he wins the election AND inherits a Democrat-laden Congress anxious to cater to his every whim for the next two years. I have rights as a parent and I don’t need Barack Obama to tell me I can’t raise my kids the way I see fit (read: homeschooled if the local schools suck and sex education when *I* determine they are old enough – such as *not* when they still watch Mickey Mouse cartoons and think Santa Claus is real)).

In other news, I specifically voted AGAINST any of the dudes listed that voted in favor of the bailout bill – whether they be Republican or Democrat. There were also a couple local offices that were having elections, and I was pleased to place my vote next to a woman that I actually KNOW for one of those positions. She is on my mommies forum and a very smart lady who has done a good job filling in the interim vacancy left by her joke of a predecessor who was canned for various illegal misdeeds last year. I hope she wins – she deserves it.

There were also some legal amendments up for vote – such as the ability for restaurants to sell liquor on Sunday (a big YES on that one), and raising the age of sexual consent from 14 to 16 (another YES on that one).

All in all, I waited in line for a couple hours to spend 2 minutes voting. Definitely NOT a waste of time.

So go vote!!!
