My beautiful flowers are already losing their petals. I know it had to happen – but I didn’t think it would happen within 2 weeks of them starting to bloom! My tulips are losing petals and those white flowers are shriveling up. I think the sudden uptick in temperature by 20 degrees might have done them in, despite our watering them to combat the heat.
It’s just as well – we’re getting thunderstorms tomorrow and I’m sure that would have done them in as well. Bummer. I had hoped to be able to take one last picture of the WHOLE front of the house this Saturday after the landscaping is completely done – with gorgeous flowers on display. Not gonna happen.
I’m glad we got pictures when we did! It would have sucked to not get ANY pictures of them at their most beautiful.
You could just do what my MIL does and stick silk flowers in the ground! LOL!
I have my grandfather’s irises in the ground and those things stay up a long time, and they multiply like it’s nobody’s business. They are quite tall though and they do sprout a lot underground so you have to dig them up about every two years to spread them out. This is great though because then have a ton of bulbs to give to family and friends.
Cristan – that’s what I plan on doing! *lol* Once all the bulbs are done I’ll get out the dead stuff, leave the bulbs, and stick fake flowers on top of the mulch until next spring!!
