I Made It!

This morning I got my fat butt out of bed and got to the gym by 5:40 a.m. I opted not to do the water aerobics, and concentrated on elliptical and treadmill. I couldn’t believe how crowded the main exercise floor was – every treadmill was taken (there are ten), all but one elliptical trainer (there are 12), half the bikes (there are 15) and half the stairmasters (there are 8). Only one of three rowers was being used.

I put my name on the treadmill list and hopped on the last elliptical trainer, doing a quick 10 minutes for 130 calories burned. Then my treadmill came up so I hopped on that for 35 minutes, 200 calories. Toward the end I got a stitch in my side, so I left for home once the treadmill was done. If I didn’t have the stitch I would have tried the stairmaster for 10 or 15 minutes.

I plan on going back tomorrow night, Denis’ schedule willing. I’ll probably bring my workout clothes and go straight from work so I can get home in plenty of time to see the kids before they go to bed. I know it’ll be crowded, but I’d like to try the circuit training they have (the room was dark this morning, and looking at the Y’s fall program guide, it looks like I have to make an appointment for the initial orientation, so maybe I’ll call in a bit and see about setting up an appointment for 6:30 p.m. tomorrow evening).

I just got an email from Mare-Bear saying that her wedding is in six weeks…six weeks is a decent amount of time. I can probably lose a good 10 pounds in those six weeks, right?

I Made It!

It took me a full hour longer than usual, but I made it into the office today. My street in NJ was iced over this morning but once I got to the main road it was fine, if a bit slushy. I presumed a lot of people would be staying home today and drove to the park/ride but I forgot that when the lots are snowcovered people just kind of park whereever they want. So when I arrived there were no spots available. I drove back down to the gas station where I normally park and despite lots of snow along the strip, I was able to parallel park pretty close to the curb on the street (it helps to have a 4WD truck).

The bus into the city took forever, and then the bus IN the city took forever. I normally get to my desk at 8:15 a.m., but this morning I arrived at 9:20 a.m. Oh well. Most of the bankers are here, and three admins are here. I got a call from Mare-Bear this morning at 6:20 a.m. telling me she wasn’t going to make it. No surprise though, since Queens got it a bit worse than NJ did.
