One of my favorite memories of being in New York City was when my sister and I took a trip up there to visit some family friends. We went to go see the musical Les Miserables, and as we stood outside, a program hawker came around selling programs. My sister, who was standing closer to the hawker, turned to me and said, “Buy me a program.”
Uh HELLO? He’s RIGHT NEXT TO YOU. I burst out laughing and to this day I can turn to my sister at any moment in time and say, “Buy me a program” and she’ll begin laughing.
When we lived in NJ people would ask us for recommendations on things to do in New York and we always had a nice list for them to visit: Central Park, Broadway, Times Square, Park Slope. There were also specific activities which make New York unique. Places like the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Bronx Zoo, Shakespeare in the Park, the Ground Zero memorial, the Statue of Liberty, and even strolling through Times Square at 2 a.m. – which is perfectly safe because it’s PACKED with people 24 hours a day.
