This morning CootieBoy asked that I carry him into daycare. I refused. He began fussing, and I left him next to the car and began walk towards the entrance of the daycare. He followed moments later and when he got within ten feet of me he collapsed on the ground in protest. I once again ignored him and entered the front hallway of the daycare facility. Once again, he followed me but once he got to the front hallway he laid prostrate again.
At this point I was ticked, and said, “You have two options, young man. Either get up and walk, or I will drag you to your classroom. Being carried is NOT an option.”
He considered his options, then whined, “I want you to CARRY me!”
“Walk or drag – that’s it.”
He refused to get up and walk, so I grabbed him under one arm and began to drag him down the hall, using my foot to “carry” him so he wasn’t literally dragging on the ground. He started crying, so I immediately stopped and helped him stand up. He promptly walked to his classroom.
But once inside he started crying again and said that I had hurt his feelings (his favorite catchphrase when he’s upset or mad). I explained that he was a big boy and that I was no longer able to carry him anywhere. He kept crying, so I gave him a hug, told him I loved him, and began to leave. He latched onto my leg and asked me to stay with him. Poor kid.
Turns out, he didn’t get a nap at daycare yesterday – and that, in combination with the fact that I let him stay up a bit late playing “Lego Batman” last night, resulted in a very tired boy this morning. His teacher said she’d be sure he gets a nap today so he’ll be well-rested by the time he gets home tonight.
He finally calmed down and let me leave, but I have very little hope that he’ll stay on “sunny” today and predict he’ll have more of a “stormy” day.
I had a similar conversation with Daisy yesterday, and she’s almost TEN. 😉
