This morning Denis woke me up at 7 a.m. and reminded me to call my office to see if it was opening. Sure enough, the office was going to be opening at the normal time (which makes sense since there’s only one inch of snow/slush on the ground). I hopped in the shower, enjoying the idea of having a whole hour to get ready for work.

At 7:30 a.m. I called the message again – just to make sure – since the news was going on and on about all the accidents on the roads (58 in Charlotte, with 20 of them being called in in 20 minutes). I decided to leave for work around 8:15 a.m., which gives me an extra 15 minutes to get to the office.

At 8 a.m. I was totally ready for work, the kids were outside with Denis playing in the snow (daycare has obviously been cancelled), and I decided to take the 15 minutes to update my playlists on my mp3 player. At about 8:15 a.m. I was just finishing up and getting ready to put on my coat, when the phone rang.

It was the head of HR, telling me that the office was going to close after all. I told her I was just about to leave and she said she was glad she got me before I left.

But looking at the news, even now at 8:37 a.m., it doesn’t look bad and there’s no reason for me not to go to work, even for a few hours. So I’m going to try emailing Mr. BIL (he has a blackberry that I think sees his work email) and tell him that I’m willing to meet him at the office for a few hours if he wants me to (remember two things – he can walk to work, and he is out of town starting tomorrow until next Wednesday). Even if I don’t go in until 10 a.m. and leave at 3 p.m., I know he’d be grateful for that.

Update at 9:58 a.m.: Well, I emailed Mr. BIL at 8:45 a.m. and haven’t heard from him. So it looks like I’m not going in at all today.

Oh well, yay for snow days! We’ve got nothing. No rain. No snow. No sleet. No hail. No gloom of night. Only a work day. Sigh.
