His New Nickname

So tonight Denis, Ace, Anthony and I headed out to Morristown to see Kathy Griffin’s live show. It turns out they were filming the night for her new Bravo network special! Our seats were excellent (we were in Row S but the theater was surprising small so we were actually kind of close) and she was a laugh riot.

Oh, Kathy Griffin, how do I love thee – let me count the ways?

1) You love reality tv as much as I do
2) You love pop culture as much as I do
3) You love BAD pop culture as much as I do

She talked about a lot of celebs tonight, including Oprah, Ryan Seacrest, Anna Nicole (again!), her brief stint as the taxidriver on the new season of “The Surreal Life”, Pamela Anderson, Dick Clark, the tv show “Starting Over” and last but not least – Clay Aiken, or as he will be known from now on, Gayken (a much better nickname than my Gay Aiken moniker). The whole last 15 minutes of her show was about her several meetings with Sir Gayken and it was absolutely hilarious.

I was surprised by how old some of the people in the crowd were – and I’m sure they didn’t understand her brand of humor (celeb bashing). It’s probable that they were just theater sponsors and wanted good seats to whatever show was available. That’s the only explanation I can think of. There were also lots of gay men in the audience – Kathy’s right up there with Liza (who she also talked about) and Barbra (also mentioned) for the gay set.

Kathy is the kind of woman that I would love to be friends with, if I could have any celebrity friend. And not so much because I want to be able to say, “Hey, I know a celebrity” (even if she does think she’s D-list), but because I want to be the one that Kathy calls and says, “Guess who *I* just met – get a load of this…” Because the girl can weave a tale, that much is true.
