So a guy just got promoted yesterday to work directly in conjunction with Mr. Sutherland in his division. This guy was already an executive, but now he’s only one level below Mr. Russell and Mr. Sutherland. Apparently Mr. Sutherland asked Mr. Russell if he’d consider allowing me to provide some admin support for…hm…I need to come up with a name for him…what celebrity does he look like?…okay, well he doesn’t really look like him, but we’ll call him Mr. Banderas just for kicks. So anyway, Mr. Sutherland asked Mr. Russell if I could provide admin support for Mr. Banderas (hello Antonio Banderas google searchers!).
Mr. Russell said no, citing that I was busy enough with the work I currently do. Quite frankly, I’m shocked by this. Because yes I do things that keep me busy – but I’m not nearly busy enough. Mr. Russell tends to give me busy work – lots of creating files that will never be used, lots of printing out documents that he doesn’t need because he already has a copy of it, LOTS of triple-checking flight times for travel. That’s because Mr. Russell is very detail-oriented and needs all that stuff. But it’s not time-consuming, it’s just mindless. And I do very little for Mr. Sutherland when he’s in this office, too. Now, I’m curious why Mr. Banderas isn’t going to bring the admin he already has – she’s a great girl and I’d LOVE for her to work up on this floor instead of downstairs.
I’m just really amazed that Mr. Russell thinks I’m too busy to do it.
Well, I’d suggest that you tell him that you feel that you’re ready to take on additional tasks, but I fear that he’s create more busywork for you.
