Apparently today is the fifth anniversary of the Big Blackout of 2003. If you recall, most of the northeastern section of this country was without power for many hours (in our case in NYC/NJ about eight hours). Have I mentioned how much I hate the heat? And how about the fact that I hated commuting from NYC to NJ especially since I had an infant in NJ to worry about (she was only a few months old when the blackout took place).
I wrote about my own adventure getting home which was obviously touched by the hand of God considering how everything fell into place.
For Denis? Not so much.
But at least we got home safely, and without the destruction we dealt with when we attempted to leave the city on 9/11. But I can tell you that between 9/11 and this blackout in 2003 it was enough for me to say “enough is enough” and I began searching for work in New Jersey so I wouldn’t have to commute to NYC anymore. It took me over 18 months to find the right NJ job that enabled me to leave NYC behind, and I’m glad that nothing bad happened in the interim (or since, for that matter).
