Great. Just Great.

I love how about a week or two before my review I step it up and try to really excel my normal work level only to have a relatively major mistake occur. Isn’t that AWESOME?

Last week we were working on a document to be sent out to about a dozen parties. Since I was out Friday I made sure to get everything ready on Thursday. The document was pretty much final and had been reviewed many times. That’s in my favor, I suppose. Anyway, the document was signed by the attorney working on the case with Mr. BIL and sent over to the courthouse. We then sent out the multiple copies to all the people involved in the case, including the attorneys.

Today I received an envelope from another attorney – apparently he’s the wrong one. Instead of John A. Doe, I sent it to John B. Doe but using John A. Doe’s name. Great. The only good news is that the FAX copy of the document did go to the proper attorney – I did get that part correct. But the firm and mailing address were wrong.

It seems like a relatively minor thing, but it’s the minor things that Mr. BIL gets upset about – he rarely gets upset over MAJOR things (which is weird, I know). So I’m not sure how he’ll react – is this a minor thing, or a major thing? I mean, now all the attorneys in the case may use my list as the “go by” for future mailings, which means the wrong attorney will continually get the wrong mail. So common sense says to simply email the other attorneys and say, “Hey, the address was wrong, please make sure you use the address I’m providing now as the proper address for John A. Doe.” That could take care of it. I asked a litigation attorney who deals with these lists all the time, and that was her recommendation. But I’m just not sure.

Mr. BIL is out today, and I’m not sure I want to tell him about this over the phone because he may get confused when I try to explain it. Which means waiting until tomorrow unless the other attorney in our office who is working on this case comes in today and can decide what to do about it in Mr. BIL’s absence.

But yeah, it’s AWESOME that this is happening so close to my review time. LOVE IT.
