The weekend with the family was fun – they arrived later than expected on Friday which was actually good because I was able to clean up a little bit before they all arrived. The kids were thrilled to see Marmie again so soon and had a great time with Uncle Beau, Aunt Jen and Pop as well.
For dinner we enjoyed some Beef BBQ sandwiches that Denis made (delish) and then just kind of chilled out for a couple hours before Marmie & Pop headed over to their hotel for the night. One thing we did was watch Jen & Beau’s wedding video, which was very well done. It was actually a DVD of some photographs along with music. CootieGirl loved it – mainly because it included pictures of her.
On Saturday morning Beau and Jen met up with Marmie and Pop and they headed into Manhattan for a few hours. I kept the kids company while Denis did a little bit of work. At noon I put CootieBoy down for his nap and a few minutes later Tracy showed up. I told her that CootieBoy was down and that once he woke up he could put CootieGirl down for her nap – this way she never had to deal with both kids at once.
Denis and I left for Manhattan a few minutes later and headed straight to the theater for the show, which I’ve already posted about. Afterwards, Marmie & Pop opted not to stick around the city for dinner (it was FREEZING on Saturday), so we all rode the bus back to NJ and ordered in. After Marmie & Pop left around 9 p.m., Jen was exhausted and went to bed. Beau stayed up for a little while longer. Then Denis went up. I stayed awake watching the short-track speed skating on the Olympics and finished a book I had started earlier in the day.
On Sunday I went to church early to help set up the band. It was invite a friend day, so we had a lot of newcomers to church that morning. We had a good crowd – I’d say we topped 200 people (it’s normally about 125). The band did a decent job – I asked Jen to listen out specifically for my harmonies and the keyboard. She said she heard my vocals fine but didn’t hear the keyboard at all. One reason for that may be that I played very little in the upper keys and played a LOT of bassline. She said the bass player was turned up REALLY loud compared to the other instruments. Those bass players – they LOVE to be turned up all the way to eleven (even in practice I have to tell our bassists to turn down their amps).
After church Denis headed off to man an open house, and the rest of us headed over to Tick Tock Diner for some lunch. CootieBoy was in a funny mood, having a good time mashing his food into his mouth. He ate a lot though – he loved the grapes I cut in half for him, and didn’t even flinch with the grapefruit. CootieGirl ate ketchup and tomatoes for the most part.
After lunch I took the kids home and the family followed along behind me. After some quick goodbyes I put CootieBoy down for a nap. Then the family left for Virginia. I played with CootieGirl for another half hour and then put her down for a nap. However, neither kid felt like napping and talked to each other and kept each other entertained for at least an hour before CootieBoy finally passed out.
Their naps were short. CootieGirl put on the wedding DVD again and danced and hummed while pointing out the various people in the photographs. “There’s Jen! There’s Marmie! Mama, that’s you! That’s MEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!”
CootieBoy cuddled with me for a good long time on the sofa – he was still kind of out of it since his nap was only an hour.
Because of the short naps we were able to put them both to bed early after their baths and have a nice relaxing evening.
A real Good Times weekend! Loved it. Must do it again soon. Thanks for everything, especially the tickets!
Fun weekend indeed. Thanks!!

That was the most your vocals have ever been turned up on you. Marty must have known your family was there so he wanted them to hear you. I think it’s the first time I ever heard you singing.
