Back in January I had the perfect storm of client meetings show up for Mr. BIL. It was a chaotic day that I still remember quite vividly because it was so awful for about 3-4 hours after I got to the office that day.
Well, one of those clients has reared its head today. In the manner of a missing folder. Mr. BIL has known it was misplaced for several weeks now, and has been anxious to find it so that he could (finally) get started on the client’s request. But we just couldn’t find it.
Today I took advantage of him being in a 3-hour meeting and proceeded to clean up my entire workstation, the ledge, AND his office. I was sweating after a while from all the running around I did. And I did not find the client’s documents. Not even a REFERENCE to the client or her documents. We did receive something about three weeks ago related to the client, which I promptly put in a folder, with the client’s name written on the tab, so that it wouldn’t get lost. That’s the only documentation we have.
And despite my cleaning my workstation, the ledge and his office, Mr. BIL still said, “Are you sure it’s not in your cube?”
The thoughts that went through my head at that moment: Dude – I just cleaned out the ENTIRE THING looking for your file! And not only that, but I CLEANED YOUR OFFICE looking for the file. And in the process of cleaning your and my area I also did a LOT of filing of other client documents that were just laying around. So I don’t know what to tell you. Needless to say I was a bit miffed.
Since he met with so many people that morning I will now be going into all of the client folders from that day in case it got misplaced. But Mr. BIL did happen to say, “I wonder if I didn’t have any document – but just had notes?”
If he “just had notes” I’m gonna kill him.
