Getting Ready to Party

This weekend Denis and I began our planning for the White Elephant party which is taking place in five weeks. The good news is that our attendance will be significantly larger this year (we’re up to 19 confirmed online, with 8 confirmed verbally and another 6 on the cusp of whether they’ll attend or not but leaning towards “yes”). It very well could be our largest party yet. And because it’s our second year hosting in SC, we’ll have a lot of people that haven’t sampled our tasty hors d’oeurves that we’ve served in years’ past.

So we’re looking at retaining some oldies but goodies:

  • Stuffed Mushrooms
  • Crabcakes
  • Mini yorkshire puddings
  • Bruschetta (two kinds – one tomato based, one cheese based)
  • Hawaiian meatballs
  • Cream-cheese stuffed cherry tomatoes
  • Spinach and artichoke phyllo cups (thanks, Ace!)
  • Then at least one new one:

  • mini-BBQ sandwiches
  • Add in a couple pies (pumpkin and chocolate eggnog) and the plethora of Christmas cookies, and we have a party.

We have decided to make a couple pitchers of mixed drinks so that they are “at the ready” – we will be making Oatmeal Cookies and Girl Scout cookies. We are also (at the request of some party-attendees) planning on making a single tray of jello shooters. I know – College Revisited, right? Anyway, we aim to please so we’ll make one tray of red and green shooters for those who wish to have them.

We’ll also have a full house – Ted and Anne, my sister and her hubby (and kid), as well as one of my sister’s friends from Charleston. Also, I got word yesterday that one of Denis’ NYC pals has actually bought his plane ticket and will be heading down south for an extended weekend (he will, however, from the sound of it, be staying in a local hotel for the time he is here).

I’m VERY excited about this year’s party – it is sure to be a GREAT time!!!

I’ll have a babysitter for my kids for part of the night (from 6:00 – 8:30 p.m.) so she’s can help with Jesse as well. And the game portion takes place in the front of the house, so he should be okay on sound.

I’m not too worried, he should be OK. He just likes to be where the action is.

Talked to ECD and she can’t make it because Holly has a concert thingy at church that night. We’ll meet them for the dog hand off either that morning or on Sunday – I’m hoping for Sat AM. Annie will be crated in the garage during the party if it’ll be on Sunday.
