Denis and I love discovering and supporting starving artists when we travel. Our home is filled with a lot of quirky, fun art from artists in every place we’ve been to in our ten years of marriage. Having participated in a few art walks this past summer in my local area, I now know how much fun they are not just for the people viewing, but those displaying their art. Getting that personal feedback from people viewing your art is thrilling and encouraging to the artist. Of the 15 pieces currently hanging on our office walls, eight were bought on while on vacation from a non-galleried artist.
If you live near St. Augustine, Florida, you have an opportunity in a couple of weeks (December 7th and 8th) to view the first in a series of monthly artwalks which will feature music and art exhibits. Some of the artists will be gallery-represented, but most of them will not. So it’s important that anyone living near the St. Augustine Artwalk go and encourage an artist to continue his or her craft. The First Friday Weekend Art Walk is free, and features a wide variety of eclectic art in North Florida. And not only is the monthly event free, but it also has free parking and free Sightseeing Train and Trolley tours. Visitors can explore just about every kind of art imaginable – from photography to architecture to paintings.
