I admit it – I’m coming in very late to the whole FaceBook thing. I’ll admit that I figured it was just like MySpace and I absolutely abhor MySpace. The only reason I go to MySpace is to read Jenna Fisher’s blog (she being the woman that portrays “Pam” on NBC’s “The Office”). And even she doesn’t update regularly anymore.
So last month I decided to check out FaceBook. And I have to say – it’s not bad. At MySpace I went by the name I use here, Jaynee, but at FaceBook I use my real name. And instead of friending people I don’t know, I’m only friending those I do know. A few of my readers have emailed with me on a personal level and so they’ve been friended, but for the most part I’m keeping FaceBook separate. My profile is only visible to my friends – no one else. It’s kind of liberating in a weird way.
It’s also great fun – I’ve been able to find people from forever ago that I haven’t talked to in a long time. People that, at the time, I swore would be friends for life, but life got in the way. So it has been nice reconnecting – seeing that a rave pal of mine got married last month, that an old college buddy recently had a baby girl, that the folks from our old church as just as funny as they always were. And one friend leads to another, which has been great. By finding my friend who got married in August I found another good friend of mine that I lost contact with soon after getting married. We’ve been emailing back and forth and I’m so glad to be back in contact with her.
So I’m a fan. If you know my real name (married AND maiden), feel free to do a search and find me.
I don’t think you’re too late to the game. I’ve had an account for a really long time but it wasn’t until the last 6 months that a lot of people really have gotten involved and it has made it grow really fast. I think a lot of people are making the switch once they “get it”. It took me awhile too.
