I took a chance on sending CootieBoy to daycare yesterday despite a mild fever in the morning. He had a good day – they never called me to have me pick him up, and he was in good spirits when I got home. However, he was smokin’ hot. As he finished his dinner he laid his head on the table.
I scooped him out of the chair and took him upstairs to take his temperature. We use the underarm thermometer because he doesn’t protest that one. Well, the minute it went under his arm it shot up to 100 degrees, and just kept on going. 101. 102. 103. It finally stopped and beeped at 103.8. Poor little man! He was very tired and asked if we could cuddle, so I got him into his PJs and after a few attempts to have him take medicine, he could barely keep his eyes open. So I turned out his light and cuddled with him for a few minutes until his breathing evened out and I knew he was asleep. I extricated myself, and with a quick kiss to his sweaty forehead I left the room.
I figured I’d be waking up around 1 a.m. to a kid that had thrown up or something, but he slept a good long while and in the middle of the night he came out of his room crying, but was not as hot and just wanted company. So he crawled into bed with us and went back to sleep. This morning? No fever! And he woke up in a GREAT mood, which is always fun.
UI thought you weren’t supposed to take him to daycare if he’s had a fever within the lprevious 24 hours…
Yeah, well, if I had time off to be home with him I would have gone that route. But I have no time off left for the rest of the year other than a vacation day on Oct 5 and a vacation day on Dec 7. That’s all I have left. So off to daycare he went.
