So tonight is the White Elephant party, and they are dropping like flies. We have three more cancellations, so we’re down to, what, 29 people now (including Denis and me)? I’m sure we’ll get at least a couple more, which means we’re back down to our normal number of 25-27 people at the party.
We’ve had a great day so far as far as prep work. ALL the dishes have been made – only two still have the be “put together” (the bruschetta and my Yorkshire Puddings). We’ve put up the last of the decorations and we’ve started setting up the table with all the paraphernalia like crockpots, serving platters, plates/cups, the coffee server, napkins, etc. All that’s really left is to around the house is dust/swiffer, a quick vacuum of the rugs and stairs, and clear out the front closet so people have a place to put their coats. Foodwise we just have to platter the crudite, cheese and crackers; platter the cold shrimp dish; set out chips/dip and nuts; and clear off the part of the counter that is used for drinks.
And it’s only 2:08 p.m.! I didn’t think we’d be NEARLY done considering we’re alone with the kids, but thankfully CootieBoy has been really good about tolerating the high chair for a good portion of the morning and then taking a nice long nap. Denis has had his shower and I’ll probably take mine in the next few minutes after I make the numbers for the White Elephant game.
The party begins at 6 p.m., and I really hope to be “done” by 5:45 p.m. so that I have a good 15 minutes to just CHILL before people start arriving.
