Denis hates swimming. Actually, I take that back because Denis doesn’t know HOW to swim. He had a bad experience on a vacation in Aruba many years back and has hated the water since then. He BARELY got in the pool to be baptized last summer. However, I talked him into getting into our neighbor’s pool this weekend so that both kids could enjoy themselves at the same time. We were in there for a good 20 minutes, having a rolicking good time. I had CootieBoy and Denis was playing with CootieGirl, when all of a sudden I felt a hand slap my back. I turned and saw Denis floundering in the water, CootieGirl trying not to sink in the pool (she was wearing a lifevest, so she was safe from going all the way under, but she was freaking out nonetheless). Denis shouted “Help me! Help me!” as he splashed around, trying to get his bearing.
I grabbed his arm to steady him and said, “Put your feet down on the ground.” Once I had him standing I grabbed a panic-stricken CootieGirl. But by now both kids were scared and crying in my arms, while Denis was still wiping water from his face and trying to calm himself down.
Needless to say we didn’t stay in the pool very much longer.
Whoa! Take care of the Man! He’s hard to replace…
Glad the D-man is okay!!
I need to take a swim class and stay out of ALL pools. Thanks for caring. Jaynee saved me from drowning in four feet of water. Pretty sad. And funny at the same time.
Wow. Glad you’re OK, Denis. We’d hate to lose you!
Glad it turned out all right!! Eek!
Denis was only baptized last summer?! Interesting. He and I are going to have to compare stories. My baptism was only a pouring of water on my head.
