I just spent the past 30 minutes downstairs with one of Mr. BIL’s clients as they discussed the merits of Living Wills. They came up with just about EVERY scenario they could possibly think of in order to determine what choices they wanted to make.
What if the doctor is a young doctor with little experience and the healthcare agent is not readily available?
What if the doctor is a long-time physician who knows better and the healthcare agent is interfering?
What is the doctor and healthcare agent decide to go AGAINST the living will – is that be allowed?
And that’s only three of them that they discussed. My head is spinning with the possibilities, but I know what *I* would do.
The physician MAY follow my living will but it would be preferable for the doctor to wait until my healthcare agent is available for consultation. Healthcare agent has final word. NO life support (feeding tube) measures are to be taken if I am incapacitated.
Got that, Denis?
