Day Begins, Day Ends

Where did this day go? Seriously? It SPED by.

Only a handful of things to report.

When doing a partial water change in the aquarium today I found 3 more baby fish. We’re up to 8 now. I finally called the local fish shop to ask about their program to buy back baby fish, and he said I’d get a couple bucks for ’em. They need to be 3/4 of an inch long though. He told me to wait another 4-6 weeks until they are bigger and then start bringing in the bigger ones. But it’s nice to know that these baby fish will help me get food and meds for free at some point.

Today I took the kids to IHOP for free pancakes. They were in seventh heaven. I was shocked that the place was almost empty given the fact they were giving away pancakes, but I guess it was before the prime hour for dinner.

I have been hard at work on my new project at another website and it is going very well. The site has been live for about a week and I have had some healthy traffic thus far.

Books on tape rock. I just haven’t had much time to pick up physical books, so when I joined the library a few weeks ago I went ahead and checked out a book on tape (literally on tape – I don’t have a CD player in my car). My first book was “Peony in Love” by Lisa See, and I really enjoyed it. The kids did too – especially CootieGirl, who just finished a study at school on Chinese culture (the book is set in 18th century China). We’re now listening to “My Sister’s Keeper” by Jodi Picoult and it’s funny because I need to be alert so I can fast-forward the tape if anything inappropriate comes over the speakers while the kids are in the car. In “Peony” there was some sexual discussion, but it was couched in terms like “clouds” and “rain” and so it wasn’t a big deal. But with “Sister” it’s a modern story – with modern language. I’ve already had two words pass by while CootieBoy was in the car, but he was asleep during one and playing with a toy during the other. So with any luck they went completely over his head. *lol*

Denis and I went over our taxes last night and have all our paperwork together. Now I just need to gather my business paperwork together and drop it off. I meant to do that today but just never got a chance, so it’s on my list for tomorrow after my doctor appointment in the morning.

Speaking of doctor’s appointments – tomorrow is my next to last doctor appointment with my medical study. Suffice to say that in the past year I did NOT lose the 80 pounds they hoped I would lose. At my best I lost 35 pounds, but I’m back to about 20 pounds lost, which is frustrating, but I freely admit I have NOT been following the plan for the past 5-6 months.

As for Grocery Game, it’s going well. The past two days I’ve spent $121 for $235, but with added discounts that I’m getting, I’ve actually spent $55 for $235 in groceries. I tell ya – that’s GREAT for the grocery budget!

Okay, this is a nice long post now, so I’m going to sign off for the night. Hope you had a great day!

You should check your library for audiobooks that you can download to your MP3 player. I’ve been doing that a lot lately while I’m doing housework. Our bookclub selection this month was The Guernsey Potato Peel Pie Literary Society and I LOVED it. (Plus it was only 8 hours). Another audiobook I’ve recently listened to was A Great and Terrible Beauty, which is kinda like Harry Potter for girls.

My MP3 player broke in October and I can’t afford a replacement. So I’ve been stuck with radio and tapes in the car since then.

I should check your wishlist, but do you have a replacement MP3 player on there yet? Your birfday is coming…I have about 5 audiobooks downloaded to my Zen so far.

Audiobooks are fantastic, unless the narrator is awful. So far I’ve been pleased with all but one of the books I’ve listened to.

Yeah, I have one on my wishlist – just added one today, as a matter of fact. I really don’t want an iPod – I’m a fan of the Creative players since that’s what I had before.

My library downloads are actually incompatible with ipods so I have to use my first, generic one. You can always burn to a CD or listen on your computer.

I checked with my library before I selected my Creative Zen. Ipods are so specific, that a lot of libraries are not compatible, but the Creatives are.

I did see the Ipod on your wishlist – did you change it to a Creative instead?

I saw that when I checked your wishlist again today. 😆

    That’s a fancy Zen you’re asking for!

Yeah, but only because the one I had is no longer being sold. The one I HAD was more GB, which I would prefer over snazzy, but it looks like they don’t make that size anymore.
