I haven’t been on eBay lately, but I do know that there are some CRAZY things for sale there. I remember about 10 years ago we threw our first White Elephant party and my contribution to the stack of gifts was a pair of taxidermied frogs that I got on eBay for about $10. When it was unwrapped it definitely got a big laugh.
Denis was doing a search a few weeks ago and thought someone was selling an actual cadaver, but then we read the fine print and it turns out it was a little mini-toy cadaver – as though someone had a play hospital like a dollhouse but instead of dishes and furniture, this hospital was filled with surgical equipment and dead bodies.
Here’s a listing that made me laugh: air guitar owned by John F. Kennedy. Obviously it’s a bogus listing, but someone actually paid $5,000 for it. Yes, an AIR guitar. Of course, the buyer has a negative rating, so I’m sure that the actual purchase won’t take place, but I still think it’s funny that someone actually listed an item that is obviously not real and someone bid on it.
I know there are a lot of people out there who probably WANT to sell something on eBay but don’t want the hassle of listing it, managing the auction, and then determining the best way to ship the item (especially if it’s a big ticket item requiring special shipping). Apparently there is a service out there call iSold It where you take your item to the iSoldIt location near you (I was surprised at how many locations there are!) and they will guide you through the process of selling your item, and then send you a check once the deal is done. Talk about easy! If I had known last year about this kind of service I would have given them a few things that I ended up throwing out because I couldn’t sell them at a garage sale!! Next time I have large items that I’d LIKE to sell but don’t have the wherewithall to actually do it, I’ll probably just drive up to the Charlotte location and let them do it all for me. MUCH easier that way, don’t you think?
