Moving is tiring work. And I didn’t even move any boxes myself today!
This morning I was awakened by CootieGirl, offering me a Pop-Tart to start my day. We broke, er…bread together and then I got up and started unpacking boxes. Denis left a while later to meet the guys at the storage unit. The kids were thankfully quiet and I was able to unpack what seemed like a lot of stuff before Denis showed up with the truck.
But what I unpacked was a drop in the bucket compared to what is in the house now. It’s a sea of boxes that seem neverending. I’ve been unpacking kitchen boxes for the past 2 1/2 hours. Just kitchen boxes. I’m taking a break from that and will now go up to CootieBoy’s room and unpack a bunch of kids stuff because his bedroom needs to have some semblance of order so that he can go to bed peacefully tonight.
The movers were nice guys but the job could have been finished at least an hour earlier. They were really slow the first two hours they were here at the house, but then suddenly in the last hour they ZOOMED and got 1/2 the truck unloaded. But since the total move was only $1,500 this time around, I’m pleased.
Once the kids are in bed I’ll see about popping over to Target to buy another tall bookcase to match the two I have. We got rid of two crappy bookcases before we moved and my other bookcase is now being used as originally intended – the upper portion of a hutch. So I have no place to put a lot of my books.
As for broken things – I’m very surprised that only TWO things have come up broken: my Fiesta spoon rest, which is easily replaced, and a vintage Harlequin plate that was only with $5-10. Of course, I’m not done unpacking all the Fiesta boxes, but so far so good even with the crushed boxes like the one featured in my moblog in the sidebar right now.
Tomorrow I’m skipping church in order to do more unpacking. Also a woman is coming by to buy the daybed and possibly two dressers – that $$ will go to the new fishtank that I hope to start (a 30 gallon tank).
Onward ho!
Congrats on the move. Sounds like it is going fairly well. Welcome to FM!
