I can’t tell you how many contests I enter. It’s not as many as some people I know, but it’s enough that I get dejected when I never win. So it was with a brief eyeroll on my part that I entered a blog giveaway contest in which the prize was an Amazon Kindle. In total, JLP received 171 comments in the contest, and I thought there was no way I’d win.
But imagine my surprise when I received an email last week saying that I DID win! It’s all thanks to JLP, a fantastic finance writer whose blog I’ve been reading since I got laid off in January 2009 and went in search of blogs dispensing fiscal advice to help me plan for the extreme loss of income. Even after I got a full-time job again (in November 2009) I continued to read the finance blogs because they continue teaching me things on a regular basis. JLP’s blog, All Financial Matters, is one such blog. Filled with excellent information, I know I’m going to learn something new when his posts pop up in my Google Reader feed.
I received the Kindle yesterday and it’s fantastic – I’ve already uploaded over 20 books, with a goal of finding more free books over the next few weeks (as if I didn’t have ENOUGH books to read already). I also plan on researching my library’s website to see if they allow Kindle downloads. All in all, I think I’m going to love being a Kindle owner.
Thanks, JLP!
Congratulations! That is pretty sweet! I’ve been vascillating back and forth between whether to get a Kindle or an Ipad, and think I’ve pretty much settled with a Kindle. Other than the obvious price difference, I think holding off on the IPad until the competitors really hit the market is a good idea. Hope you enjoy the Kindle, I think you will!
I’ve certainly enjoyed it thus far. I’m about 1/3rd of the way through my first ebook and other than a very sparse instruction manual, I’d say it’s about perfect! =)
Very cool! I’m glad you won and I’m glad you are enjoying your Kindle. I got on for my birthday (the 15th) and I really like it.
Thanks for your kind words regarding my blog. I tick off a lot of people when I get political so I have cut back on such posts.
I’m glad you found a job.
Take care,
JLP
