This weekend Marmie came into town which was great because she could keep an eye on the kids while Denis and I did stuff around this house. This weekend we concentrated on the front yard and laid down the sod that was delivered on Friday afternoon. We ran out at some point because they only delivered 45 pieces instead of the 58 that Denis had requested. But we’ll have those extra delivered on Thursday and will then have a completed front yard. What is there now looks GREAT (yay for clover being gone!).
Once the lawn was done we tackled the awning for the front door. It’s a multi-colored fabric awning instead of the white metal one. It was funny because we put the old awning on the street to be picked up, and while we were laying down the sod a guy came pulling up in his pickup truck, grabbed the awning and went on his merry way. None of us said anything to each other – we continued laying sod and he just took it. We were hoping that someone would take the steel door we also had on the curb, but I don’t think anyone did. We had used that steel door as a headboard for our bed but opted to get rid of it since we never installed it onto the wall.
Once the awning was done I laid down the first coat of red paint to the front door. Over the course of the weekend I put on another 3-4 coats. And it will still need a couple more before it’s done and completely covered without showing any other color (the previous green color or grey primer). But it looks good.
Denis tackled the back deck and powerwashed it even though it was raining. Both he and Mom felt there was no better time to do it since it was wet already.
Yesterday after church Denis and I drove to Lowe’s intending to pick up a new storm door but we forgot that Bergen County has blue laws that keep all the stores closed on Sundays. So we literally pulled into the parking lot, saw it was closed and turned right back around and drove home.
All in all a very productive weekend. And even with all that work we managed to watch three movies, make cupcakes for CootieGirl to take to school today to celebrate her third birthday, give the kids a couple baths, and do seven loads of laundry (thanks, Mom!).
