It has been almost two weeks since I posted here! Sorry about that, three people who still read Cootiehog.
Life has been busy as we head into summer. The kids finished their school year (and successfully enough to go on to the next grade level). Hard to believe that in 2 1/2 months I’ll have children going into 3rd and 2nd grade, respectively. They did well this past year – CootieGirl improving her reading significantly and excelling at math (which she most definitely got from Denis), with CootieBoy finished the year continuing to read at nearly a 3rd grade level.
They sure are happy it’s summer though. Summer means no more piano lessons and no more homework. Summer means Carowinds and the pool.
On Thursday night they had a piano recital, even though we’ve only been with this new piano teacher for about a month of lessons. Surprisingly, they were the only kids to memorize their songs – all the other kids used sheet music. I could swear back in the day when I had music recitals I had to MEMORIZE what I was playing. Am I remembering that wrong? Either way, the kids did very well.
This is going to be a very busy summer for them. I’ve got them signed up for two VBS programs at two different local churches. They’ll be going away to “first timer’s camp” in July. We’ll all be visiting my parents’ neck of the woods in late July so that Denis can see the Mets play the Nats. There are already a couple birthday parties on tap. Add in the aforementioned Carowinds and pool fun, and there are good things in store for the kids this year.
Last night we went to a Knights baseball game and slept on the outfield afterwards. It was a Cub Scout event and was a very late night. We didn’t get on the field until about 10:15 p.m., and then they started running a movie on the big screen about an hour later. I know CB passed out at some point, as did Denis and I, but I think CG was up watching the movie until they finally turned it off around 1 a.m. so campers could get some sleep. It had been a hot, humid evening, but it eventually cooled down and was actually quite nice by midnight. However, sleeping on the hard ground is not fun – note to self: ALWAYS take the air mattresses when camping out. And tent lights.
As for the current weekend, we plan on hitting up the pool later today, and then I also hope to finally get started on painting CG’s bedroom. We attempted a beach theme a couple years ago and it never fully came together. In the meantime the girl has decided she wants hot pink and zebra stripe in her room. So we’ve gotten the bedding and curtains, and last weekend I bought the pink paint to go on her walls. I just haven’t had the energy or gumption to actually PAINT yet. But I will. I will. Eventually.
I wish everyone a happy ,air-conditioned summer!
