Book: The Zombie Survival Guide

I got this book based on the recommendation of author David Sedaris. We went to a David Sedaris reading in Charlotte a couple months ago and he was raving about the book and read some samples, and it sounded awesome. Fortunately, I received the book as a gift along with its companion book, World War Z, which I’ll be reading at some point.

Anyone – and I mean anyone – who has even a passing fascination with inevitable war against zombies should get this book and study hard (yes, my tongue is firmly implanted in cheek). In the book the writer (Max Brooks, funnyman Mel Brooks’ son) analyses various fighting intruments (samarai swords ranking quite high, fisticuffs ranking quite low), various hideout locations (prisons on a cliff = good (if vacated by high violent criminals and filled to the brim with supplies), desert = bad (too hot, no good hiding spots), to outlining the various outbreaks that this planet has experienced over the past 62,007 or so odd years.

The book is well written even if a bit repetitive at times. But Mr. Brooks just wants you to understand how important it is to plan ahead!! Providing insightful illustrations and detailed supply lists, this book will guide any community through an attack as long as they take the time NOW to prepare for the eventual attack. Sure, “Shaun of the Dead” is one of my top 10 movies of all time, but that doesn’t mean the movie taught me the true facts about killing the undead. But this book did. Bravo!!!
