Yesterday I came home to a sparkly clean house. Well, mostly – the kids had already pulled out a bunch of toys in the TV room, but that was easily cleaned up. Our friends Ted and Anne had arrived and were hanging out – CootieGirl and CootieBoy treated them as though they were friends they saw every week instead of once a year. It probably helped that they came bearing gifties. Anyway, the kids were climbing all over Ted and Anne as though they were all best friends. Very funny.
Eventually Denis, Ted and Anne left to meet up with our friend Ed, who is staying in Charlotte this weekend. They wanted to go to dinner and then hang out at a bar after. So after they left I hung with the kids for a while and then put them to bed. Once they were in bed I had a nice, quiet, spotlessly clean house to enjoy. I put on “Survivor” and proceeded to prep one of the appetizers we’re serving at the party tomorrow. Once that was done I passed out on the sofa for an hour or so and then went to bed upstairs. I’m not sure what time Denis, Ted and Anne arrived back at the house.
This morning I let the kids open the gifts that Ted and Anne brought, and they both decided to take the toys to show and tell at school today. CootieBoy got a fun motorized car while CootieGirl got what every princess wants – pink hair accessories and multi-colored hair extensions. VERY cute and she plans on wearing the hair extensions to the party tomorrow.
Work will be busy today (more dictation fun) and then tonight will be even more busy. Before I left for work I came up with a list of over a dozen things that need doing, and I know that wasn’t even a complete list. Tonight I’ll be making the chocolate eggnog pie, making the mini yorkshire puddings, wrapping remaining gifts, and re-covering our kitchen chairs. And that’s just MY stuff for tonight. Denis has his stuff too. Fortunately Jen and Beau are arriving tonight and we may be able to talk Jen into making her famous cookie icing before she collapses into a deep sleep.
Then tomorrow we take the kids to gymnastics, finish prepping the food (we’re serving about 12 kinds of appetizers this year), polish all the silver we’ll be using, vacuum the main floor one more time, pick up the babysitter, set out all the equipment we’ll need, package up the cookie takeaways, and the multitude of last minute things that always come up. Oy.
We have 28 confirmed guests, but three have already told me they may NOT be able to come (one because of a medical procedure happening today and two others because they have a very sick dog right now). Hopefully they’ll be able to make it though.
Have a great time, I wish we could’ve made it! Mmmm, mini Yorkshire puddings…
Hey Jean – next time you comment, be sure to put in your URL so that my plugin can trace back to your latest post and list the title of that post in your comment. It can only do that if you post your URL, though.
Okay, so I stopped by to say, “Hello,” and now I’m all, like, “Phew, I’m tired, hope you have room on the couch!”
Liz’s last blog post..If the shoe fits, then you’re right, I’m mean and it’s probably NOT my shoe, anyway.
I’m making cookie icing? You realize I moved this summer? I have no clue where that recipe is…
*going to the Martha Stewart website…*

Forgot to add a taste (drop) of Vanilla!

Actually its egg whites, not milk, that gives the frosting the consistency and set up you want.
