Back Home, Back In The Groove

We got home yesterday at a decent hour – around 6 p.m. The kids were happy to be home, and I was happy to see that my fish survived the five days with no food and a borderline ammonia spike in the tank. Cooper the Dog was also happy to see us (the person that kept him for the trip had dropped him off earlier in the afternoon), as were the cats.

We put most of our things away and then I commenced to typing. I had two messages left from my sermon project – despite the help I got last week, I ran behind. Fortunately, I got it finished up today and got paid. The man was very nice about my delay, which made me happy. It was ARDUOUS work and if I hadn’t subcontracted out some work last week I still wouldn’t be done. =(

The wedding that we attended on Saturday night was a lot of fun. My cousin Alana looked beautiful and the outdoor setting for the wedding was incredibly beautiful (despite the loud, musical ice cream truck that kept driving by during the vows). It was funny because at some point during the ceremony CootieBoy said, “Mama, I hafta go potty.” I escorted him out and as we went into the bathroom he said, “I hope we don’t miss the kiss!” He did his thing, washed his hands, but as we walked outside we saw the bridal party already standing in the back. We had missed the kiss. Oh well. The reception was fun – they had dancing and CootieBoy and CootieGirl had a blast on the dancefloor (and subsequently slept like logs that night).

While at the wedding my cousin Jessica told me that she was coming to Charlotte for an interview and I invited her to bring her daughter and stay with us rather than driving to and from Raleigh in one day. I’m happy to say she took me up on the offer and will be arriving tomorrow afternoon. Her interview is Wednesday afternoon, and I told her she is welcome to stay through Thursday if she wants to explore the area on the off chance she gets the job. The kids are exciting that Jess is bringing her daughter – they all got along famously at the wedding (well, almost famously – the girls didn’t want CB to play with them at one point, which hurt his feelings a bit).

So in advance of her arrival tomorrow, after I finished my typing project I spent a couple hours upstairs cleaning the bedroom and bathroom they’ll be using. We had been using the bedroom more for storage than anything else – there was still Christmas stuff on the bed! And the bathroom was in major need of an overhaul, so this was the perfect opportunity for a long-overdue cleaning.

Sadly, it’s raining in these parts, so no pool today, despite being a holiday. However, I’m still suffering from a pretty painful sunburn that I got Saturday morning hanging with the kids at the beach house pool and jacuzzi. I spent two hours out there with no sunscreen whatsoever. Yeah – I learned my lesson. *lol* I’ll say this though – it’ll be a nice base once it dies down and I head to the pool with the kids after the weather clears!
