So, the project that I’m working on this week is just miserable. Oh, I like the person that hired me very much – she’s just great and really communicative, which I like.
But the audio – the audio! – is horrible. Since the recording was done off the telephone, it’s not nearly as clear as it could be. Add on to that the people are either too close to the mouthpiece or too far away, and I find that throughout the entire call I’m craning my ear to try and hear it, and suddenly get blasted across the room when another person begins talking. There is no middle ground.
Add in foreign accents (which I’m normally okay with, but when combined with a bad recording AND the fact that they aren’t close to the mouthpiece), well, it’s pretty unbearable.
As such, my goal to get two calls transcribed per day is failing miserably. My original deadline to transcribe thirteen calls was yesterday. I’ve gotten seven done. We extended the deadline to Friday – but there’s NO WAY I’ll be able to do six calls today. I’m hoping to get two done.
This means I’ll be working like crazy on the weekend to get it finished by Sunday.
As for the OTHER freelance project, on which I’ve been negotiating with the client, I received the first installment of his disks in the mail yesterday and typed up the first disk last night to send him my sample. If he likes it, he’ll award me the job. He wants it done in two weeks, and based on what I typed last night that’ll be NO PROBLEM. With massive interruptions like Denis getting home from work, eating dinner and putting the kids to bed, it “only” took me four hours to complete the sample. So once I’m done with the first project, I should easily be able to type up 2-3 sermons a day and meet the guy’s 2-week deadline. If so, that’s a nice payday just before we head to the beach. The only snare is that he hasn’t actually awarded me the job yet – he didn’t want to give it to me until he saw a sample of my work. But hopefully he’ll award it to me today. We’ll see.
I’ll be praying that all goes well and you’ll get the work done with ease. You have found a need and are meeting it ~ that’s the way to have good, consistent work. Well done!
