Last night wasn’t particularly cringe-worthy as in past seasons. I do have a few notes though.
The Glitter Girl: What gets me about her is that she had a decent voice, even though she was doing an impression of Grace Slick rather than singing on her own. When she was done, Simon didn’t tell her she was BAD – in fact he said she’d be good in a cover band. Randy then agreed and continued to tell her she’d be good in a cover band. So the girl leaves after they all said “You are talented, but not right for this show,” and proceeds to have a meltdown. I can’t help but think that was all a set-up on her part. There was NO REASON for her to rant – but she did it anyway, obviously to get more camera time (which worked, since the crew later filmed some footage at the apartment she shares with her equally-loopy mother).
Hairy Princess Leia: I have to admit – it made me laugh. And WOW that wax job on his chest looked painful (see Steve Carrell’s chest wax in “40 Year Old Virgin” for a movie scene that had me crying in laughter). Men getting waxed = funny.
Scary Princess Leia: She had a decent voice – but not a good voice. But for her to claim in her post-audition diatribe that AI doesn’t like diversity? Uh…check out the past six winners, honey. It’s not all white men. And it’s not all perky blonde women either.
Temptress the Linebacker: What a sweet girl. Did NOT look 16 years old. I know Simon did it begrudgingly, but I liked how the judges went out with Temptress to meet the family, and I heard Paula and Randy both tell the parents they should be proud of their daughter. VERY sweet moment, and yes I teared up a bit.
As for the ones who made it through that we saw, they seemed pretty good, but none of them blew me away, so I doubt any of these will be on my short list unless they are AMAZING in Hollywood.
“more camera time”
They actually shoot the scene with the girl before the second day. After they (Producers and other that are not S,P or Randy) sift through the 1000’s of people at the Arena they pick a few people for the film crew to follow… and she was one of them. I am 100% sure they never send a film crew to someones house after they sing in front of “the trio” unless they make it to hollywood. 🙂
What about that poor guy…gosh I can’t remember what he sang…but it looked like he had no top teeth and you couldn’t understand him…
Yeah, the glitter girl was strange…and I don’t think she could have said the word “victorious” anymore times than she did!!
There are definitely some strange, scary people out there! What about the stalker guy? YIKES! I had a few early favorites, but not many. I blogged about it, too – LOVE American Idol!
Bubba’s Sis’s last blog post..Wordless Wednesday – Lone Star
I might be a little off myself, but I love Idol more in the early stages with the not so talented. I always makes me smile if not cry from all the laughing!
London Blogger’s last blog post..An Unforgiving Religion – or a Government’s Show of Control?
I enjoy the early rounds as well, London Blogger – you can’t help but alternate between laughing and cringing at some of the people auditioning.
