I really enjoyed last night’s episode of American Idol 5. The bit with Marcus, the guy who sang “She’s Out of My Life” and took 60 seconds to sing the first three words, was priceless. When he mentioned using Paula and Randy’s CD to help himself I about died laughing as much as Simon. I love that Randy took it with a sense of humor as well.
In other TV news, Denis Tivo’d an episode of HGTV’s Kitchen Trends and it showed a FABULOUS kitchen that we both loved. What made the kitchen so special were the little things that one normally wouldn’t put in a kitchen. He put in a modest fish tank near the bar seating area and also put in a bay window seat near the prep area. The bay window seat area also had super deep drawers under the seat for extra large pots and pans and platters. The fish tank was built into the cabinetry and all the supplies and filters were in the cabinet below the tank and the lights and door to feed the fish was in the upper cabinet. Just a great design feature. Pictures are below.
The featured kitchen didn’t look TOO huge and now Denis and I are wondering if there’s a way to incorporate this into our own design in our SC house.
Part of me thinks that maybe we can do away altogether with the breakfast nook and just have a REALLY big kitchen/great room with a HUGE island in the middle that seats 5-6 people. That would allow us to “go the distance” and have the bay window seat and fish tank and not feel like we’re sacrificing good working spaces. The other neat thing in this kitchen? ALL THREE SINKS had garbage disposals. BRILLIANT!
I just don’t know that we’d need a breakfast nook. We don’t have one now and function just fine. And if we have the island with seating then that’s most likely where the kids will eat their breakfast in the morning, right? And the great room is certainly big enough that we can put a small table and chairs in there if the kids are desparate to eat in front of the tv. Something to think about…

I like this kitchen and we can get rid of the nook if we incorporated some of these ideas into our kitchen.
Love, love, love it.
It is beautiful.
Ok. Is there room in the house for the Fluid Pudding Family? We’re pretty quiet, and we clean up after ourselves (mostly).
Angie – we will MAKE room for you if you want to come live with us! Maybe we’ll build a cabana in the backyard so you can live in close proximity to the inground pool we hope to have.
The breakfast nook is nice if you have a couple of people over for game night. 🙂
I love bay windows, and having it right there in the kitchen is so nice! I’m stealing this design for my own house, sometime. 😉
