Admit it…You Like Microsoft Too

If you’ve known me or read my blog for any length of time, you know that I love Bill Gates and everything he stands for. I freely admit that I love all things Microsoft Office. Yes, it’s true. I just think Bill Gates is awesome not only for his business but what he does with his foundation to help those in need. He is truly admirable.

I’ve been using Microsoft Office products for at least…gosh. Has it been 15 years? I’m trying to think of the first job I had where I used it. I think it was my second job out of college, for a British telecom company. So that would be about 1993. Wow.

My firm just upgraded to Office 2003, but I know the goal is to upgrade to Office 2007 in the next year or two. I’ve heard that 2007 is vastly different than what users have now with Office 2003, so it makes me curious to try and use it before the firm implements it just so that I can (in advance) over how ticked off the office hens will be to have to learn new software.

In any event, I think it’s cool that CostCaptain is an education reseller that offers discounts to homeschoolers. This area, despite having great schools, has a high population of homeschoolers (I know three couples in our church homeschool). So I think it’s great that this kind of discount for Office products is given to homeschoolers.

Yeah, I love Microsoft. And I love most of the changes in Office 2007 even though some of them were hard to get used to. I wish I could say the same about Vista…it’s a step backward in functionality, and for anyone who’s used prior versions of Windows it is anti-intuitive. I wish MS would just admit it and pay for everyone to downgrade back to XP until they come up with something that’s truly an improvement.

Bill Gates is possibly the worst thing to happen to PC in the history of the Universe. His monopolistic suppression of any open standard, the way his company has strong-armed hardware manufacturers and his extortion of them on licensing of the operating systems has all the same characteristics of the oil-barons of the early 20th century.

Do you know that if you order a PC and ask for something other than Windows, the hardware manufacturer still has to pay a royalty to M$? That’s just not right.

Pop – have you read “Barbarians Led By Bill Gates” about Microsoft? GREAT book. Didn’t make me hate Bill Gates though. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Bill Gates.
