So I believe that Denis and I are definitely taking the kids to New York for Thanksgiving. I need to verify that one last time so that I can book the timeshare in eastern PA for the week. I mentioned to someone at work last week that we’re going to NYC for Thanksgiving and the first question she very jealously asked was “Are you going to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade?” to which I replied, “Why yes, yes we are.” I know Denis is excited to have the kids see the big balloons in person and the “live” musical acts.
I’ve said many times that visiting NYC is like visiting no other city. There is SO MUCH to do there that it boggles the mind. I know when we lived there that we’d see different groups taking various NY tours around the city, and it always made me smile to think someone was enjoying my adopted city to the fullest.
There is now a group called “Family in New York” that provides personalized tours of all the places you want to go. And if you have a large group the prices can’t be beat. They list a full nine-hour day at $399. Now, if it’s just you and one other person I can see how that would be a bit expensive. But what if you are a party of 10? That $399 can’t be beat to have a personalized tour around the city for an entire day!
As for us, we won’t need that kind of service since we’re from there, but I do get emails from time to time from people asking for advice on where to go and what to see, so I can see the importance of wanting to plan a good trip and get as much done/seen as possible in the time you’re there.
So Denis – let me know if we’re definitely a go for T’giving in NYC. I’ll book the timeshare tonight of that’s the case.
I’m going to NYC for Labor Day! We always go with a group for the US Open, but since I don’t care for tennis I go sightseeing. This year I’m planning on going to the Morgan Museum, and another trip to the Cloisters Museum in Upper Manhattan. I also want to explore the outer burroughs some.

I’ve never been to the Cloisters but I hear it’s lovely. For the outer boroughs, definitely go to Cobble Hill, Park Slope and Williamsburg in Brooklyn. There isn’t much to see in Queens, but you can always go take a walk in our old neck of the woods, Kew Gardens, which has some lovely old homes as you walk from the subway over to the corner of Lefferts/Metropolitan.
